teaching PJ’s or high heels & sequins?

Today in class I was excited that the computer lab was open. This is the second week that we have been in the computer lab working on various Web 2.0 sites. This is my niche, this is exciting learning to me, the internet has so many wonderful things, I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!!!

When I told the class that we would be in the computer lab again (I can’t believe it was open for two weeks in a row), I could see the falling countenance on a handful of faces. So, I asked –
“Who doesn’t like it when we have computer lab days?”

About 5 hands went up (girls – which is a whole different subject but some that I’ve done research on with gender based learning). So I asked,
“Why don’t you like it?”

To which I got responses like….
“I like to do hands on projects.”

“I like to do crafty things.”

“I like to do things with groups – not sitting alone at the computer.”

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks…. I had fallen into that old trap of TEACHING IN THE MANNER IN WHICH I LIKE TO LEARN AND BE TAUGHT!!!

I pride myself in “mixing things up” – but sometimes I like to fall back into my comfort zone. This was the second week in my “teaching PJ’s” – I mean I had put on my SLIPPERS too.

My apologies to Delaney, Madison, Hannah, Big Mack…..

After Spring Break I am going to have to get dressed – maybe I’ll put on a sequined dress and high heels…….

  1. It’s ok Mrs. Townsley. Sometimes it is ok to stay in your comfort zone but, you never know what you might find when you try different things and explore what’s out there to learn. We wil have lots of fun! :)

  2. I think it’s okay to stay in your comfort zone. I am new to ESC, but I’m excited to be here! :)

  3. I agree! I love doing crafty things! I think it would be cool if we made a power point on food and we could present it on the smart board! We could be in groups to! You could mabey even bring props to go along with the project! Then everyones happy!:D

  4. It is great to get out if your comfort zone sometimes. You may find something you like better than what you had in your own comfort zone. It could be your new comfort.

  7. Hopefully you don’t mean a real sequin dress beacause it wouldn’t be very comfortable.

  8. I love the computer lab and I love having it all day. TECNOLOGY ROCKS.
I like alot of the projects we work on. I do have proplems with them
somtimes, though. Don’t get me wrong, I like other projects ,too.
I really like outside projects, too. I wish we could do some outside projects.

  9. Computers are cool, but I like to do hands on projects.
I like to build things with my hands and do computers.

  10. I think it’s awesome the way you “mix it up”. I like to be livin’ la viva loca . So don’t complain or get in Mrs. Townsley’s fart zone!
